The Beautiful Defect
After finding out that I had the mutation for hereditary cancer, I made the prophylactic decision to remove my breasts and uterus. Though my experience with the gene has had its ups and downs, in the end, it improved my marriage, my health, and my confidence. It helped me to realize that even if things are out of my control, I alone can decided how I let the good and the bad things influence my life. A positive mind can turn struggles into triumphs and stress into a learning experience. My diagnoses didn’t have to be a negative burden weighing on my shoulder. It could be the warning that gives me a future.
